    Dinner Plans: Week 37

It’s Week 37 of Dinner Plans and we are turning our attention to saving the flavors of summer!

We're swimming in tomatoes, peppers, and squash now. That said, I'll make batches of tomato sauce to freeze as a base for winter time tomato soup and pasta sauces for lasagna. We've finally caught a reprieve from a preview of Indian Summer. Warm temperatures really sprouted our garden into overtime production as we woke to an abundance of zucchini this last week. Just in time for a few of my favorite late summer dinners to make!

Seasonal Cooking Tip: Late Summer Zucchini

When it comes to seasonal cooking, this year I'm sharing a weekly tip here focused on preparing ingredients, preserving foods, and kitchen hacks that help you save time.

This week we're talking about that last batch of zucchini. The summer squash took off in our garden and I couldn't believe how, in the blink of an eye, we were swimming in heirloom summer squash. My favorite ways to use it all up? This seasonal pesto that is easy to freeze. I also love quick pasta dinners and this super savory Sunday supper idea.

    Dinner Plans for Week 37

Hard to believe our Summer CSA is coming to an end, but we've got one more box to go. A couple of menu option repeats just as I hone my skills in dishes that are new to me, like Masala Bhindi. I may also reference Patrick's recipe for Fried Okra in this week's CSA newsletter. His recipes are always top notch! As we round the corner to autumn, I'm turning my attention to tomato sauce freezer prep. Ratatouille makes it star appearance on the Dinner Plans Menu this week to help me with the eggplant, peppers, and abundance of garden squash. Plenty of savory supper options this week!

Here’s what we received from our CSA share this week:

    Stepping Stone Farm:

    • Heirloom Cherry Tomatoes
    • Green Mountain Rhubarb
    • Burmese Okra
    • Jimmy Nardello Peppers
    • Shishito Peppers
    • Conservor Shallots
    • Koji Chili Oil from Rice Flower Koji

Our Game Plan for Dinner this Week:

Sunday: One Pan Roast Italian Sausage, Peppers, Onions, and Potatoes

Monday: Masala Bhindi with Roti and Curried Chickpeas and Tomatoes

    Tuesday: Mole Chicken Tacos

Wednesday: Rustic Ratatouille with Herby Polenta

Thursday: Cilantro Lime Skirt Steak with Blistered Shishito Peppers

Friday: Smash Burgers with Caramelized Shallots and Bacon Jam

Saturday: Pizza Picnic with Peppers, Onions, and Italian Sausage

From favorite recipes to new meal ideas using a wide variety of ingredients, cooking delicious food with our CSA definitely gets us out of a dinner rut while reducing food waste. I share meal ideas for our busy weeks with our weekly newsletter. Subscribe to our weekly newsletter to be in the know when they’re live. 😉
