Dinner Plans: Week 9

It’s Week 9 of Dinner Plans and we are relishing the spring like weather here in Napa Valley. It was a treat teaming up with the CSA-Innovation Network to highlight farm CSA subscriptions during CSA Week and how we can support our local farmers and growers by participating in one this year.

For many farms, this is the kick-off point to sign ups so they can plan their growing season accordingly. For us, we’re joining the Spring CSA share with Stepping Stone Farm and continuing our year-round subscription to Riverdog Farm. I’ve felt so fortunate to find two incredible fruit and vegetable CSAs for our family. If you’re local to me in Napa Valley, I encourage you to check them out and to sign up for Stepping Stone before their sign up window closes. Spots are limited and Patrick shared they’re moving to weekly pickups! I am looking forward to all the delicious spring produce.

Seasonal Cooking Tip: Fermenting Fun

When it comes to seasonal cooking, this year I’m sharing a weekly tip here focused on preparing ingredients, preserving foods, and kitchen hacks that help you save time.

This week we’re talking about fermenting foods for both food preservation and to help with everyday home cooking. Fermented foods hold a wealth of health benefits supplying our bodies with essential probiotics that support digestion. Bonus: home fermentation is super easy to do and is a great way to extend the shelf life of seasonal produce.

If you’re just starting out in the fermenting fun, I highly recommend starting with pickled red onions. They’re super easy to make and are the perfect topping for tacos, salads, or on slow roasted pork. For summertime, we can’t go wrong with pickles. In winter, stay tuned as I’ve got a kimchi recipe that we’ve loved for Napa cabbage we’ve received in our winter CSA boxes.

Dinner Plans for Week 9

We picked up our Riverdog Farm this week and will be counting down to when Stepping Stone Farm CSA boxes return in April for the Spring CSA share. We’ve got some DIY salad mix remaining along with one or two heads of cauliflower left. With more butternut squash this weekend feels like a good week for risotto.

Here’s what we picked up for our CSA shares this week:

Riverdog Farm:

  • Navel Oranges
  • Purple Carrots
  • Broccoli
  • Green Garlic
  • Walnuts
  • Dino Kale

Our Game Plan for Dinner this Week:

Sunday: Butternut Squash Risotto with Herb Roast Turkey Breast

Monday: Roast Carrot Tart in Puff Pastry with Side Salad

Tuesday: Sopes with Rio Zape Beans, Turkey Chorizo, and Fresh Salsa

Wednesday: Roast Leg of Lamb with Broccoli and Kale Slaw

Thursday: Orange Chicken with Daikon Radish & Carrot Salad

Friday: Smash Burgers with Herb Roasted Fries

Saturday: Pizza Picnic with Seasonal Pesto, Crispy Prosciutto and Burrata

From favorite recipes to new things with a wide variety of ingredients, cooking delicious food with our CSA definitely gets us out of a dinner rut and reduce food waste. I share meal ideas for our busy weeks with our weekly newsletter. Finally, Subscribe to our weekly newsletter to be in the know when they’re live. 😉
