Why This is One of the Great Snack Radish Recipes

Radish fans will love the crunchy texture of the fresh red radishes. The butter also tones down the strong peppery flavor of the radish bulb. You’ll love this recipe for its versatility. It can be used in an array of radish appetizers. You can serve it with a compound butter. You can also serve it as part of an entree with your protein of choice. This tartine can definitely be filed under great options for a vegetarian snack or meal.

Ingredients for the Radish with Butter Tartines

This tartine is one of the easiest things we’ll make for a quick snack or lunch. The best part? We just need a handful of ingredients. Here’s what we’ll need:

Sliced Radishes: This easy recipe relies on the freshest radishes you’ve got. And you can use any variety from French breakfast radishes to Watermelon Radishes or Easter Egg Radishes. Even using a mix of radishes we find at the farmers markets will create a beautiful tartine highlighting the colors of every radish.

Sliced Bread: I opt for a whole wheat sourdough batard here but you can also use fresh baguette. We will toast our bread so use whichever bread you prefer and want to toast.

Good Quality Unsalted Butter: Use the best quality butter you can get. I personally love the butter from Clover Sonoma, Strauss, and Sierra Nevada Cheese Company’s Vat-Cultured Butter. The Sierra Nevada Cheese Company butter is the one we use in this recipe. It’s creamy and absolutely delicious with the peppery taste of the crunchy fresh radishes. Allow the butter to come to room temperature to make it easier to spread.

Flaky Salt: Maldon Sea Salt or any fleur de sel you like is perfect. We want just a touch of salt to help season our French butter and radish snack.

Garnish Options: Olive oil, ground black pepper, chopped fresh herbs such as parsley or sliced green onions.

How to Prepare the Radish with Butter Tartines

This dish is ready in minutes and is one of the best appetizer recipes that looks like you put in a lot of work but it took no time at all. Here’s how we make it:

1. Prepare your sliced bread for toasting. You can opt for a toaster but my favorite way is by toasting the bread in the oven. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a rimmed baking sheet with foil or parchment paper. Lightly spray cooking spray on the parchment paper or foil. Add your sliced bread and lightly spray the tops with cooking spray or drizzle with olive oil. Bake the sliced bread for about 5 to 7 minutes until the edges are golden brown and bread is toasted.

2. While the bread toasts, prepare the radishes. We’ll first begin by slicing the radishes thin. To do this, cut the root end off and discard. Cut the tops of the radishes and discard. Place the radish cut side down, slice the radish in half to create two half moons. Slice radishes thinly into half moons. Set the sliced radishes to the side.

3. Once the bread is toasted, slather a tablespoon of butter onto the top of each toast. Layer slices of radishes on top. Drizzle with a little olive oil and sprinkle a little salt. If using herbs, garnish with the chopped fresh herbs and a grind of black pepper. Serve.
